Grand Wood Works in Progress
This page features unfinished Grand Wood pieces that were purchased from the factory when it was closed. Most woodworkers draw designs on their wood pieces and use a band saw to cut out the basic shape for them to finish the pieces from. Grand Wood was a bit more advanced. They used a Salstrom 24 bit carving machine so the horses look a little more finished that if they were simply cut out of blocks. This machine would carve 24 crude copies at a time from the original design. I'm picturing a couple of these carved pieces on this page. These are unfinished pieces with no smoothing or carving. These were left unfinished when the factory stopped selling figurines in 1982/83.

Grand Wood Tyrack
This picture shows Tyrack finished, and it shows him right out of the carving machine.
Even the finished Tyrack is a bit crude. Most pieces are nicer so this may be a second.
Both pieces came from the factory archives.

Grand Wood Large Citation Unfinished
This picture shows Citation finished, and it shows him right out of the carving machine.
